BRIEF HISTORY OF THE MUSEUM

The archaeological importance and the historical interest of the Viladonga Hillfort, as well as the amount and quality of the materials appeared in the excavations made from 1971, and the necessity to investigate them and to expose them in their own context, caused that in 1983 the Ministry of Culture created the MONOGRAPHIC MUSEUM OF THE VILADONGA HILLFORT, in a building constructed in the Seventies. Its preparation, installation and assembly took place in 1985-86, opening itself to the public in this last year. In 1989 its management to the Xunta of Galicia is transferred. Between 1992 and 1994 important works of reform and extension with the construction of a new building after the already existing one became, with the subsequent dowry, in the later years, of the infrastructure and necessary personnel for the development of all their museum and patrimonial functions, bound to the own deposit castrexo (Hillfort) and galaic-Roman.
